Readings, workshops & more: April brings a full calendar of events for writers!
Dear Members:

Get out your calendars! April is loaded with special events for writers. Click on the links for even more information.

APRIL 1: Registration deadlines for the 2008 Interlochen Literary Symposium (April 11-12, 2008) and the Bear River Writers' Conference (May 29-June 2, 2008) at Camp Michigania on Walloon Lake. See our web site for information on discounts and scholarships available exclusively to Michigan Writers members.

APRIL 2: You want to write about your family and your life, but you're not sure how to get started? Don't miss this free Life Writing workshop with Anne-Marie Oomen, creative writing chair at Interlochen Arts Academy. The workshop begins at 7 p.m. in Room 207 of the University Center of Northwestern Michigan College, 2200 Dendrinos Drive, Traverse City. Part of Michigan Writers' free writing workshop series, the program is open to the public.

APRIL 10: Join us for a reception and reading celebrating the release of the new Cooperative Press chapbooks at 7:30 on April 10 at The Writing House at Interlochen Arts Academy. Authors Leigh Fairey, Holly Wren Spaulding, and Catherine Turnbull will read from and sign their poetry chapbooks. This is a special opportunity to hear these fine poets and buy their limited-edition chapbooks, published proudly by Michigan Writers. The reception is open to the public.

APRIL 12: Not a MW event but something you won't want to miss! Barry Lopez gives his keynote speech, "The Writer and Social Responsibility," at 1:30 p.m. in Corson Auditorium at the Interlochen Center for the Arts. Lopez comes to town as part of the Interlochen Literary symposium, but his speech is open to everyone. Tickets cost $10.

APRIL 17: It's time for our MW spring potluck, where the food is always great and the company even better! Dinner starts at 6 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 6726 Center Road in Traverse City. Bring a dish to pass and writing news to share. We'll vote on a slate of directors for the coming year.

In other news, we welcome Denise Baker as a director. Denise, who has extensive experience in non-profit development work, was appointed in February to fill a vacancy on the board. She has volunteered to handle membership recruitment and relations and to manage distribution of MW publications.

See you in April! Write on!
