2005 Prize winners
The William J. Shaw Memorial Prize for Poetry is named for a beloved professor of the literary arts from Northwestern Michigan College. The contest is held annually, and is open to all poets residing north of the Grayling line. The deadline for contest submissions is 15 October. Prizes for the first three places are $100, $50 & $25 and publication in the winter edition of the Dunes Review. Poets may submit up to three poems of no more than forty lines each. Each poem should be accompanied by a cover letter including the title of the poem, the poet’s name, address, phone number & e-mail address. Also include a $10 entry fee & SASE. Angela Williams, First Place Winner, 2005
Angela Williams works in the cherry industry and studied creative writing at Western Michigan University. Her poems have appeared in Mississippi Review, Universities West Press’ Emily Dickinson prize Anthology 2002, Writer’s Voice, and other journals.
Her first book, With a Cherry on Top, was released July of 2006
from Mayapple Press. The book incorporates the poetry and prose of
other regional writers focusing on the cherry industry without being
a typical anthology.
