Dunes Review Submission Guidelines

We’re open to all writing styles and do not adhere to any particular aesthetic. While we’re based in northern Michigan, we consider work from anyone, anywhere. Feel free to send creative work that’s different from what we’ve published in the past.

We accept submissions in electronic format only, via Submittable. If you do not have an account, it’s free and easy to open one. We are unable to consider work sent via email or U.S. mail.

Simultaneous submissions are fine. We ask only that you promptly leave a note in Submittable if any of your work is accepted elsewhere.

We aim to respond within 60-90 days, and often much sooner. Please wait for a response before sending more work.

What We Consider

Please check out the issues on the Dunes Review main page.

We consider

  • Short fiction or creative nonfiction (up to 3,000 words)
  • Poetry (up to 4 poems)

We do not accept

  • Unsolicited reviews or interviews
  • Previously published material

The Fine Print

We publish two print issues per year. Payment for accepted work comes in the form of two copies of the journal and an invitation to read at our launch celebration held in April and October in Traverse City, Michigan.

You agree to be added to Dunes Review and Michigan Writers email lists when you submit. You may unsubscribe from these lists at any time.

If you are interested in submitting translations of literary work, please query the editor at dunesreview@michwriters.org beforehand. The translator is responsible for all author and publisher permissions regarding the source work.

You can log in to your submittable.com account and check on the status of your submission at any time during our submission period. If it has been longer than 90 days since you submitted and you have not received a response from us, you may query the editor at dunesreview@michwriters.org for an update.
