As a cooperative venture, authors share with the Cooperative Press the costs of production and responsibility for marketing the chapbooks, which are sold at Michigan Writers events, online, and in bookstores and retailers in Northern Michigan. Click here for more information.

Education

Michigan Writers sponsors numerous workshops and seminars throughout the year. Workshop presenters include local and nationally known writers and other professionals.

Most events are held near Traverse City and are free and open to the public. If there is a fee, members usually receive a discount.

Membership Gatherings

We hold twice-yearly potluck dinners and general membership meetings in Traverse City, typically in April and October. This is a great opportunity to feast; socialize with other writers, discover writers’ groups to join; and enjoy short programs such as a guest speaker, an open-mic night, or a panel discussion.

Newsletter

Our monthly e-newsletter includes information on upcoming events and updates of members’ professional activities. If you would like to contribute information to the newsletter, the deadline is the 25th of the month preceding publication; send information to [email protected].

Scholarships

Since 2008, Michigan Writers has offered full and partial scholarship opportunities for members who attend either of two regional writing conferences: the University of Michigan’s Bear River Writers’ Conference on Walloon Lake, and the Interlochen Center for the Arts Writers’ Intensive.
