In celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the Writers Retreat, Michigan Writers and the Interlochen College of Creative Arts are pleased to announce 1 full-tuition scholarship to the 2015 Retreat!
Our Fall Social Is Saturday, November 15
On Saturday, November 15, come join us for a casual “happy hour” gathering of Michigan Writers members and friends at the InsideOut Gallery. The topic is creativity and belonging. That’s why we’ve invited special guests Good on Paper, an improv comedy group, to get the fun started. We’ll also be playing matchmaker with writing groups (only!). Have fun, meet people, have a drink … enjoy the literary life.
New Writers, Your Publication Opportunity Is Here!
Each year, the Michigan Writers Cooperative Press sponsors a contest open to new writers for shorter works (chapbooks) in the categories of poetry, fiction and nonfiction. The contest is open now, and concludes on December 15.
Storytelling Returns to Traverse City
On Monday, October 20, Traverse City’s own storytelling event, Here:Say Storytelling, returns for its 2014-2015 season. On the third Monday of each month, at the InsideOut Gallery beginning at 7pm, come to experience first-person, true stories.
Camp NaNoWriMo!
November is National Novel Writing Month — NaNoWriMo. Join NaNo dreamers from all over at the beautiful forested Girl Scout camp in the woods of Northern Michigan, outside Traverse City on Saturday, October 18.
Dunes Review Public Reading on Saturday, October 18
On Saturday, October 18 at 7 PM, the community of Michigan Writers will celebrate the newest issue of Dunes Review, now in its 19th year of publication. The public reading and reception will take place at Brilliant Books on Front Street in Traverse City, featuring short readings from contributors.
Interlochen Fall Creative Writing Programs
Registration is now open for the new Fall 2014 season at Interlochen’s College of Creative Arts. Explore the many weekend offerings which begin September 13 and run until November 18.
Chapbook Winner Robb Astor Launches “Bitter Dagaa”
Michigan Writers will host a book launch for the winner of our annual chapbook contest, Robb Astor, of Traverse City. Bitter Dagaa, a collection of 23 poems, is partially rooted in Robb’s experience as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the United Republic of Tanzania during the mid 1990s.
